Robert Wise - Though not a part of the Star Wars
family he was a part of another iconic family, Star Trek. Robert
Wise directed 1979's Star Trek: the Motion Picture. At the time he
was directing said film he was told by the studio that he had to cut
chunks out of the film which disturbed Wise to the very core. Twenty
years later Wise came back to the film, re-editing ST:tMP the way he
originally wanted it to be...a much better film.
Among his other credits as director: Sand Pebbles,
Audrey Rose, The Hindenberg, The Andromeda Strain, The Sound of Music, The
Haunting, West Side Story, The Day the Earth Stood Still, I Want to
Live!. He won two Academy Awards and was nominated for three others
for his directorial work. As editor the most famous film he lent his
talents to was Citizen Kane for which he was nominated for an Academy
Award.
George Lucas and Robert Wise had one tiny
connection, Alan Dean Foster wrote the novels for both Star Wars and Star
Trek: the Motion Picture.
