10 Steps to Fashion Freedom: Discover Your Personal Style From the Inside Out~2001 - (Malcolm Levene, Kate Mayfield) My first yoga class, over twenty years ago, was taught very meditatively and quietly by an unpretentious Yoda-looking man in a small room in an apartment building on West Eighty-third Street in New York City.
101 Damnations: the Humorists' Tour of Personal Hells~2002 - (Michael Rosen) Pages 77-78. TV and Movie Aliens that are Attracted to Human Females: on Jabba the Hutt "...Return of the Jedi. He forces her to wear a metallic bikini and chains her to his throne so that he can leer at her, laugh diabolically, and feel up her a** with his blubbery tail.  (The plucky princess, it should be noted, shows no sign of fear-or any other believable emotion- throughout the film.)  Before he captures Leia, we see Jabba watching two more-or-less humanoid female slaves dance in scanty costumes as the snuffle-upagus plays the piano...etc., etc."
13th Gen: Abort, Retry, Ignore, Fail?~1993 - (William Strauss)  "... pastry shack, my best friend charged us 5¢ per pepperoni slice, and my girlfriend let us rent "return of the jedi" from the video store for forever. we all got fired eventually, but that was usually the best part of it."
2000 Presidential Campaign: A Communication Perspective~2002 - (Robert E. Denton) The Empire had struck back, but McCain and the Jedi knights were still able to inflict a few wounds..."
2010: Odyssey 2 - (Arthur C. Clark) On page 194 "So it went on, case after case. Very few of the contacts were actually lying or insane; most of them sincerely believed their own stories...like the unlucky amateur archeologists who found the props that a celebrated science-fiction movie maker had abandoned in the Tunisian desert almost four decades before."
2061: Odyssey Three~1991 - (Arthur C. Clarke) "Did you ever see those old Star Wars movies?"  he asked Greenberg.  "Of course -- half a dozen times"  "Well, I know what's been bothering me.  There was a sequence when Luke's spaceship dives into an asteroid-and runs into a gigantic snake-creature that lurks inside its caverns." "Not Luke's ship-Han Solo's Millennium Falcon. And I always wondered how that poor beast managed to eke out a living. It must have grown very hungry, waiting for the occasional tidbit from space.  Leia wouldn't have been more than an Hors d'oeuvre away."
24/7: Living it Up and Doubling Down in the New Las Vegas~1999 - (Andres Martinez) "... on broader get-your-sh**- together titles. Stephen Covey is about the nearest thing we have to a national coach, a corporate Yoda who gets $75,000 per appearance for peddling cleverly packaged common sense, so I picked up his 7 Habits of Highly ..." and two more references to Yoda Covey ;)
3-D Game Art f/x and Design~2002 - (Luke Ahearn) "... stage where you can work on your image with all toolbars, menus, and palettes closed, you will truly be a Jedi Master of Photoshop. Not only will you be fast, but you will effectively increase your screen size as well. The ..."

Salinger, Yoda of Star Wars, comic-strip character Dilbert, c-SPAN, Albania, Imperial China, Al Gore, Janet Reno, Steve Forbes High Performance..." [2] "...a Five's heart is definitely through her head.  They are the Enneagram's natural philosophers ("lovers of knowledge").  But like Yoda, mentor of Jedi Masters in the movie Star Wars, all Fives conceal their magic behind an artfully fabricated facade..."

Aaliyah: More Than a Woman~2001 - (Christopher John Farley) On Aaliyah's role in the Matrix and upcoming Matrix's.  Making Harrison Ford an example of transcending associations of characters.  "...may have played Han Solo in Star Wars but he is remembered for much more.  But, in the end, once you're in a work of art of true originality, it almost doesn't matter.  Forever afterwards, you'll be part of remembrances and retrospectives, anniversary celebrations and remakes.  (and Mark Hamill on the other end) So what if Mark Hamill never really made a great movie besides the first two installments of Star Wars?  He's going to live forever on video, DVD, and whatever formats they come up with.
Above the Line: Conversations about the Movies~2000 - (Lawrence Grobel ) in the Preface: "When we look to myth to teach us about the forces of good and evil, we may quote a few lines from The Waste Land or Ulysses, but it's Han Solo, Princess Leia, R2D2, and Chewbacca, Yoda and Darth Vader who have been part of our collective fantasies"

Accidents in the Home: A Novel~2003 - (Tessa Hadley) There was a game for when there was a grown-up dinner party on downstairs.  Tamsin and Toby would get into the same bed, sitting up with the sheet draped over their heads like a tent, and in a mixture of telling and and acting and urgent sotto voce planning, they went through adventures featuring Han Solo and Luke Skywalker against the evil amphibian Mr. Beale, who led an army of seals.  Tamsin and Toby weren't Han Solo and Luke Skywalker themselves, they were only involved with them;  Tamsin tended and consoled them when they were injure, crooning to them and stroking their invisible faces."
ACT for Dummies~2002 - (Suzie Vlk) "Choice H has the dreaded word "being," which is often found in trap answers. Choice J sounds like Yoda from Star Wars, with the order of the words stilted and awkward."

Adonis Complex: The Secret Crisis of Male Body Obsession~ - (Harrison G. Pope Jr.) [1] "...Soon, our laboratory began to fill up with an army of plastic men.  G.I. The little 1978 versions of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo perched on the windowsill, side by side with their much beefier modern counterparts. Batman, the Avenger, and the Wolverine menacingly ..."  [2] "... increasing muscularity of action figures over the years. You'll probably recognize two favorite characters from Star Wars, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo... Anatomy of Change: A Way to Move Through Life's Transition~1993 - (Richard Strozzi Heckler) A title heading: Attention"... In the movie Star Wars, there was a rather ordinary scene that jumped out at me in an unusual way. In it, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Artoo Detoo were all standing together planning their next move, when suddenly Han Solo seemed illuminated in a way that was lacking in his companions.  I asked myself, "What makes Han Solo, the human, different than the other two?"  In many respects he shares characteristics similar to his two companions. Like Artoo Detoo, the sensitive robot, he has highly developed logical and intellectual abilities; like Chewbacca, the powerful animal figure, he has the passion needed for expression and action. But Han Solo is also gifted with ..."

People remember movies, right? Then why not start there? In Star Wars, Han Solo dodges asteroids in the Millennium Falcon to escape Imperial fighters. In Armageddon, the Earth prepares for the impact of an ..."   [2] "... Not surprisingly, Hollywood is a real offender here. In the first Star Wars movie, for example, Han Solo brags to Obi Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker that he could make the Kessel Run in "less than twelve parsecs. "  Like a light-year, a parsec is another unit of distance used by astronomers; it's equal to 3.26 light-years (that may sound like a silly unit, but it's actually based on an angular measure using the size of the Earth's orbit.  Han's claim is like runners saying that they run a 10-kilometer race in 8-kilometers!  It doesn't make sense.  Astute fans of Star Wars may notice that Obi Wan gets a pained look on his face when Han says that line.  Maybe he is wincing at his pilot's braggadocio; I choose to think Obi Wan knows his units..."  [3] "... In The Empire Strikes Back Han Solo has to do some pretty tricky maneuvering in an asteroid field to avoid being turned into Smuggler Paste by the Imperial starships.  Those rocks were pretty big, too, dwarfing the Millennium Falcon.  Let's say the average asteroid in that swarm was 100 meters across, and the average distance between them was 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) --we're being very generous here!  Given the average density of rock (a couple of grams of per cubic centimeter), that would give each meteor a mass of about a trillion grams, or about a million tons.  That in turn means the entire swarm, if it is the same size as our own asteroid belt, would have a mass of about 1030 grams.  That's about a million times the mass of our own asteroid belt, or the combined mass of all the planets in our solar system.  That's one big asteroid swarm.  No wonder Solo couldn't hide his ship there!..."

Complete Idiot's Guide to Astrology~2003 - (Madeline Gemick-Brodeur, Lisa Lenard) Chapter 2: Heavenly Revelations.  Writes that our imaginations take us to places that let us believe that there's something beyond the stars.  Star Facts: The Star Wars films it seems, will always be with us and film producers, sociologists, mythologists, and philosophers alike have all sought to explore the reasons for these films' continued popularity.  Part of it is the mythic structure of the story itself.  But the main thing everyone who studied the Star Wars phenomenon found was the universal appeal of The Force!  Indeed.  The Force IS with us.
Complete Idiot's Guide to Taoism~2002 - (Brandon Toropov, Chad Hansen) [1] Part 1: What is the Tao? One Unified Whole.  Describes Luke's experience at the cave on Dagobah.   [3] Chapter 21 - The Tao and Pop Culture ...a section called: The Star Wars Films.  From page 239 - 240 The Star Wars films are called, "The granddaddy of pop Tao."  The section delves into the Tao qualities of the Star Wars films and makes sure to tell the reader that although Star Wars has many Tao aspects it does not follow the theory completely.  Star Wars ends with Luke vanquishing evil...Tao is a balance of light and dark so evil would not be eliminated.  Note: I heard in an interview with Gary Kurtz once that in one script...or one of Lucas's initial ideas for the "nine" part series was that the Emperor does NOT die, he escapes.  Luke's struggle against the darkside is continued.  Whether Luke confronts the Emperor and kills him I don't recall...but if he did not and the Emperor goes on and on...then the story would have a more complete Taoist theme.

Counterfeit Worlds - Philip K. Dick on Film~2006 - (Brian J. Robb) British director Chris Cunningham known for his controversial music videos for Aphex Twin and Bjork, Cunningham had also attempted to adapt William Gibson’s Dick influenced “Necromancer” as a movie in 2000. Earlier he’d worked in a design capacity on David Finchers’s “Alien 3” and with Stanley Kubrick on the original development of “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence”. “It’s just embarrassing,” Cunningham admitted to Time Out (Ed’s note: a magazine?).” All I ever do is talk about films and then not make them as a result I thought: just shut up about it—make a film then talk about it when it’s done. After three or four years of tinkering with other peoples material I came to the conclusion that I just had to develop my own material from scratch”. It’s a shame, as Cunningham was a huge fan of “Blade Runner”, so was keen to embark on his own PKD movie adaptation. “I’d seen stills from it in magazines” he told The Daily Telegraph (Ed’s note: huge fan of a film he had only seen pictures from in magazines? Okay…) of his favourite movie, “ but there was something about them that hadn’t appealed to me—probably because I had been gorging on Star Wars since I was seven, and Blade Runner didn’t appear to have much hardware in it.”
