101 Damnations: the Humorists' Tour of
Personal Hells~2002 - (Michael
Rosen) Pages 77-78. TV and Movie Aliens that are Attracted to Human Females:
on Jabba the Hutt "...Return of the Jedi. He forces her to wear a
metallic bikini and chains her to his throne so that he can leer at her, laugh
diabolically, and feel up her a** with his blubbery tail. (The plucky
princess, it should be noted, shows no sign of fear-or any other believable
emotion- throughout the film.) Before he captures Leia, we see Jabba
watching two more-or-less humanoid female slaves dance in scanty costumes as
the snuffle-upagus plays the piano...etc., etc."

2061: Odyssey Three~1991 - (Arthur C. Clarke)

a sequence when Luke's spaceship dives into an asteroid-and runs into a
gigantic snake-creature that lurks inside its caverns." "Not Luke's
ship-Han Solo's Millennium Falcon. And I always wondered how that poor beast
managed to eke out a living. It must have grown very hungry, waiting for the
occasional tidbit from space. Leia wouldn't have been more than an Hors
d'oeuvre away."
A

matter. Forever afterwards, you'll be part of remembrances and
retrospectives, anniversary celebrations and remakes. (and Mark Hamill
on the other end) So what if Mark Hamill never really made a great movie

sotto voce planning, they went through adventures featuring Han Solo and Luke
Skywalker against the evil amphibian Mr. Beale, who led an army of

there was a rather ordinary scene that jumped out at me in an unusual way. In
it, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Artoo Detoo were all standing together planning
their next move, when suddenly Han Solo seemed illuminated in a way that was
lacking in his companions. I asked myself, "What makes Han Solo,
the human, different than the other two?" In many respects he
shares characteristics similar to his two companions. Like Artoo Detoo, the
sensitive robot, he has highly developed logical and intellectual abilities;
like Chewbacca, the powerful animal figure, he has the passion needed for
expression and action. But Han Solo is also gifted with ..."

"... Not surprisingly, Hollywood is a real
offender here. In the first Star Wars movie, for example, Han Solo brags to
Obi Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker that he could make the Kessel Run in
"less than twelve parsecs. " Like a light-year, a parsec is
another unit of distance used by astronomers; it's equal to 3.26 light-years
(that may sound like a silly unit, but it's actually based on an angular
measure using the size of the Earth's orbit. Han's claim is like runners
saying that they run a 10-kilometer race in 8-kilometers! It doesn't
make sense. Astute fans of Star Wars may notice that Obi Wan gets a
pained look on his face when Han says that line. Maybe he is wincing at
his pilot's braggadocio; I choose to think Obi Wan knows his units..."
[3] "... In The
Empire Strikes Back Han Solo has to do some pretty tricky maneuvering in an
asteroid field to avoid being turned into Smuggler Paste by the Imperial
starships. Those rocks were pretty big, too, dwarfing the Millennium
Falcon. Let's say the average asteroid in that swarm was 100 meters
across, and the average distance between them was 1 kilometer (0.6 miles)
--we're being very generous here! Given the average density of rock (a
couple of grams of per cubic centimeter), that would give each meteor a mass
of about a trillion grams, or about a million tons. That in turn means
the entire swarm, if it is the same size as our own asteroid belt, would have
a mass of about 1030 grams. That's about a million times the
mass of our own asteroid belt, or the combined mass of all the planets in our
solar system. That's one big asteroid swarm. No wonder Solo
couldn't hide his ship there!..."

and Yoda says to Skywalker, `There's no try. Only DO!'"
Business Coach: A Game Plan for
the New Work Environment, The~1999 - (James
S. Doyle) [1]
"...As the great philosopher and wise one, Yoda, told Luke
Skywalker, "The Force is within you; it's all around you; it flows
through the universe!" Yoda, as coach to young Skywalker, helped him
prepare for his development and training as a Jedi Warrior. The legacy
that Luke inherited from his coach propelled him beyond what he could have
seen for himself or accomplished on his own. The coach has the capacity
to help release the force that is inside others."

By the Sword: A History of Gladiators, Musketeers, Samurai, Swashbucklers, and Olympic Champions~2002 - (Richard Cohen) a bit about Bob Anderson: "... He even appeared in front of the camera as Darth Vader for the fight scenes with Mark Hamill in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. "Since Mark played Luke Skywalker without any protection at all, it was realized that due to the restrictions on Darth Vader's costume, especially when it came to the field of vision from behind the mask, Mark could easily be injured. So they needed an expert swordsman." goes into a few details about Mr. Anderson's experience on the films.

Packing Your Own Prayer Saber "Whether you're a Star Wars fan or not,
odds are that you've seen at least one of the films in the popular sci-fi
series. If you have, you probably remember the Jedi knights, the fighters of
good over Darth Vader and his minions. In order to combat the Evil Empire, the
Jedi Knight is never without his futuristic sword, known as a light
saber. The light saber is the Jedi weapon of choice, and whenever a Jedi
Knight loses his saber in a battle, bad things always seem to happen to
him. A Christian should look upon prayer the same way."

will always be with us and film producers, sociologists, mythologists, and
philosophers alike have all sought to explore the reasons for these films'
continued popularity. Part of it is the mythic structure of the story itself. But the main thing everyone who studied the Star Wars
phenomenon found was the universal appeal of The Force! Indeed.

Part 1: What is the
Tao? One Unified
Whole. Describes Luke's experience at the cave on Dagobah.
[3] Chapter
21 - The Tao and Pop Culture ...a
section called: The Star Wars Films. From page 239 - 240 The Star Wars
films are called, "The granddaddy of pop Tao." The section
delves into the Tao qualities of the Star Wars films and makes sure to tell
the reader that although Star Wars has many Tao aspects it does not follow the
theory completely. Star Wars ends with Luke vanquishing evil...Tao is a
balance of light and dark so evil would not be eliminated. Note:
I heard in an interview with Gary Kurtz once that in one script...or one of
Lucas's initial ideas for the "nine" part series was that the
Emperor does NOT die, he escapes. Luke's struggle against the darkside
is continued. Whether Luke confronts the Emperor and kills him I don't
recall...but if he did not and the Emperor goes on and on...then the story
would have a more complete Taoist theme.

Counterfeit Worlds
- Philip K. Dick on Film~2006 - (Brian J. Robb)
British director Chris Cunningham known for his controversial
music videos for Aphex Twin and Bjork, Cunningham had also attempted to
adapt William Gibson’s Dick influenced “Necromancer” as a movie in 2000.
Earlier he’d worked in a design capacity on David Finchers’s “Alien 3” and
with Stanley Kubrick on the original development of “A.I.: Artificial
Intelligence”. “It’s just embarrassing,” Cunningham admitted to Time Out
(Ed’s note: a magazine?).” All I ever do is talk about films and then not
make them as a result I thought: just shut up about it—make a film then talk
about it when it’s done. After three or four years of tinkering with other
peoples material I came to the conclusion that I just had to develop my own
material from scratch”. It’s a shame, as Cunningham was a huge fan of “Blade
Runner”, so was keen to embark on his own PKD movie adaptation. “I’d seen
stills from it in magazines” he told The Daily Telegraph (Ed’s note: huge
fan of a film he had only seen pictures from in magazines? Okay…) of his
favourite movie, “ but there was something about them that hadn’t appealed
to me—probably because I had been gorging on Star Wars since I was seven,
and Blade Runner didn’t appear to have much hardware in it.”

Cujo~1991 -
(Stephen King) [1]
'He lay with the covers pulled up to his chin and one arm crushing Teddy
against his chest, and there was Luke Skywalker on one wall. . .' [2]
'His Star Wars coloring book was open in front of him. He had been doing a
picture from the interstellar cantina, using his green Crayola to color Greedo.'
[3] 'A party of four
at the next table, three in UMP tennis shirts and one wearing a faded T-shirt
with the legend DARTH VADER IS GAY written across the front, began to
applaud.' [4]
'Tad, dressed only in his bathing suit, was driving his trike madly up and
down the driveway, playing some sort of mind game that apparently had Ponch
and Jon from CHiPS pitted against Darth Vader.' [5]
'He had various 'men' to stick into the cabs of
his trucks. Some of them were round-headed guys scrounged from his PlaySkool
toys. Other were soldiers. Not a few were what he called 'Star Wars Guys.'
These included Luke, Han Solo, the Imperial Creep (aka Darth Vader), a Bespin
Warrior, and Tad's absolute favorite, Greedo. Greedo always got to drive the
Tonka dozer.' [6] 'There
was Greedo, his best, sitting in the cab of the dozer, looking blankly out of
his round black eyes at the door of Tad's closet.'
