Dakota Grand: A Novel~2002 -
(Jasper Kenji) on his writing teaching/mentor Scott:  "...he'd seemingly dedicated much of his little free time trying to make me a better writer, an Obi-Wan for the kid from Atlanta who he thought might have been the last Jedi."
Daring to Dream/Holding the Dream/Finding the Dream (Three Complete Novels)~1999 - (Nora Roberts) "...Persistence." Kate flipped a finger from Ali's chin to her nose.  "Pays.  What would happen if Alexander Graham Bell had given up before he put that first call through?  If Indiana Jones hadn't  gone on that last crusade?"
Dark Night of Recovery: Conversations from the Bottom of the Bottle, The~1999 - (Edward Bear) Tyler asks Bob  if he's finished The Empire Strikes Back (book), Bob has not but has come to the scene where Luke tries to get his X-Wing out of the swamp and doesn't.  After Yoda lifts the fighter with little difficulty, Luke says, "I don't believe it"  Yoda says, "That is why you fail"
Dark of the Night~2002 - (Dee Davis) "...Pierce pushed his glasses to the top of his head, making him look an odd cross between Benny Hill and Yoda."
Dark Tower: Book II: The Drawing of the Three~2003 - (Stephen King)  Eddie Dean looks through the door for the Lady of Shadows and it reminds him of steadycam shots in movies. Most especially the Death Star trench in Star Wars, although he calls it that ****ing crack. But then that's Eddie. (Thanks to Sir Roland of Gilead for this reference!)
Dark Tower: Book V : Wolves of the Calla~2003 - (Stephen King) [1]  There is a robot messenger named Andy who is described as tall and lanky and with a prissy robot voice that Eddie Dean thinks sounds like C3P0 from Star Wars.  [2] "The heroes face off against the Wolves who wear armor, throw these self-tracking bombs modeled after the Snitches in Harry Potter, and more importantly, wield lightsticks which Eddie Dean from our world recognizes as real working lightsabers from Star Wars."  He points this out to his younger friend and asks him if he saw SW before being pulled into the gunslinger's world in 1977.(Thanks to Sir Roland of Gilead for these references!) [2] Page 233: "Star Wars, too," he muttered.
Dark Tower: Book VII: The Dark Tower~2004 - (Stephen King) [1] Roland and Eddie traveled into the When of 1977 to meet Stephen King and at one point Eddie is on a payphone outside a movie theatre playing, you guessed it, Star Wars.  He thinks to himself that if he never see Vader and Luke again, that would be all right with him.  [2] The firesticks some of the lowmen carry are yellow-bladed lightsabers complete with the same swooshing and humming of the movies. (Thanks again to Sir Roland of Gilead for these references!)
Darth Maul, Shadow Hunter~2001 - (Michael Reeves) "So the scam transfer went all right?"  he asked I-Five.  "For the seventh time, yes it went all right.  We have precisely one hour and twenty-six minutes before it's discovered and rectified by the auditor droids.  Perhaps another four minutes before they are able to pinpoint the location of the credit tab and, depending on how busy the local police are, anywhere from six to fourteen minutes before they arrive to take the bearer of the tab into custody for the attempted grand theft and illegal use of communication protocols THX-one-one-three--"
Dave Barry's Greatest Hits~1997 - (Dave Barry) "The reason I bring up the subject is that this particular morning I inadvertently said it directly into the ear of my son, who is almost four and who sometimes creeps into our bedroom during the night because of nightmares, probably caused by the fact that he sleeps on Return of the Jedi sheets with illustrations of space creatures such as Jabba the Hut, who looks like a 6,000-pound intestinal parasite."

Dave Barry Is Not Taking This Sitting Down~2001 - (Dave Barry) on Mick Jagger: ". . . He's only a little older (than Barry) if you calculate it in human years; but he has been living rock-star years, which take a much greater toll. In person, he looks like Yoda wearing a Mick Jagger wig. But he seemed like a pleasant enough person. . ."
Dave Barry Turns 40~1991 - (Dave Barry) " I mean my son is 9, which means that most states consider him to be more than halfway old enough to drive, and we are talking about a person who still sleeps on Return of the Jedi sheets. So I am definitely in favor of raising the minimum driving age."
Dave Pelz's Short Game Bible: Master the Finesse Swing and Lower Your Score (Dave Pelz Scoring Game Series, 1.)~1999 - (Dave Pelz) "...have to go get it. You have to earn it. And in the words of the greatest mind in golf, Yoda, "Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try." Good scoring to you! . . ."

"Whales," she said.  "Dairine," Nita whispered, "how long have they been out here?" [3] "...or tell the truth-"  Nita nodded, looking from Kit to Dairine, while Dairine modestly polished her nails on her Yoda pajamas.  And Nita stared at her, and then started to laugh, so hard that she got the hiccups and fell..." [4] "... her head and smiled, thinking that Dairine had become easier to tease since she'd decided to be a Jedi Knight when she grew up. Still, Nita went easy on her sister. It wasn't fair for a wizard to make ..." [5] "... tells you.' Not night like when it gets dark. `Knight'! Do what the knight tells you! Stuffed animals crowded bookshelves already overflowing with papers and books of every size. There was a small ..." [2]  Paul and Stevie are looking for Debbie: 284: "... She looked up at him and read his concern, his determination to succeed, in the depths of his eyes, and in that instant, he was Han Solo and Albert Schweitzer and Superman all rolled into one." [3] Paul says, "Now, let's get the hell outta Dodge" Stevie says, "Right behind you, Obi-Wan"
Finding Your Way Home~1998 - (Melody Beattie) "It's time to remember how powerful our souls really are. May the Force be with you isn't a cute little saying; it's a powerful tool clue about how we tap into true power." "In The Empire Strikes Back, one of the movies in the Star Wars Trilogy, there's a scene when Luke Skywalker, the Jedi warrior in training, tell Yoda that he will try to pull his sunken spaceship out of the mud using the Force. "No, try not," Yoda, the Jedi Master of eight hundred years, says. "Do or do not. There is no try."  "Luke tries - weakly - fails, then walks away from the quagmire and the spaceship in disgust.  Yoda watches him and shakes his head.  Then, the tiny Yoda extends his little arm, focuses all his energy, all his power, and pulls the spaceship out of the mire."  "He knows how to align himself with, and use, the Force." ""I don't believe it," Luke says in amazement.  Yoda just sadly shakes his head, then gives the young Skywalker his next lesson in Jedi training.  "That is why you fail."  Luke learned something valuable from this "failure." We learn something valuable if we are open to it..."
Fire Fighters: Stories of Survival from the Front Lines of Firefighting~2002 - (Clint Willis) "Bruce Gary was a senior man with over 20 years," Shea told me. "He was like Yoda in the house. He was very wise. I wanted to hang out with him all the time."
First, Break All the Rules: What the World's Greatest Managers Do Differently~1999 - ( ) page 66 "...There is a scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where a frustrated Indiana Jones is trying to discover where to start digging for the Ark of the Covenant.  His adversaries, the Nazis, have already begun the excavations, and he is desperate to beat them to the prize.  The locations of the Ark is inscribed on an archaic ornamental headpiece, and a gnarled Egyptian faker is turning it over in his hands, translating the Sanskrit symbols, slowly, exactly.  Suddenly Indy stops his pacing.  Hearing the translation, he realizes that the Nazis have misunderstood the ancient text.  Their calculations are flawed.  Their measuring stick is too short.  He turns to his partner and grins.  "They're digging in the wrong place"  When it comes to a manager's  core activities, conventional wisdom is "digging in the wrong place" It's advice is close, very close..."
First Cut: Conversations with Film Editors~1995 - (Gabriella Oldham) Editor Thomas Haneke on a situation involving an editing job on a film narrated entirely in Arabic: "I was provided with written translation.  It was for some company that wanted to sell an aerospace center or something to Saudi Arabia.  So I was faced with editing a film where I didn't really understand what the words were.  I knew what that were on paper, but I had to edit on the rhythm of the language.  At the final screening, three guys who spoke Arabic came in, sat down, watched the film, and said, "Good!" I hadn't completely missed it.  That was using The Force on that one!"
First Things First: To Live, to Love, to Learn, to Leave a Legacy~1996 - (Stephen R. Covey) page 315 "Exercise #4 - d) Take a few minutes and compare your list of five values to your dreams.  You may find you're living with subconscious dreams that are not in harmony with your values.  You may dream of living the life of Indiana Jones, but you don't really value the idea of crawling through cobwebs and sleeping with scorpions.  If you don't get your dream out in the open and look at them in the cool light of day, you may spend years living with illusions and the subconscious feeling that you're somehow settling for second best.  Work on the two lists until you feel your dreams reflect your values."
Fishing Lessons: Insights, Fun, and Philosophy from a Passionate Angler~1998 - (Paul G. Quinnett) on his judo instructor "He tossed around like rag dolls, never speaking a word of English. One concept for such a force amplification/feedback suit is the "Jedi" [Burdea et al., 1991 ]. I took as good a look at the . . ." [2] ". . . car was an old limo, plush and comfortable, that had almost certainly belonged to a car service or an undertaker. Fourth Trimester: And You Thought Labor was Hard...~2001 - (Amy Einhorn) [1] "...The baby doesn't look like either of you, but does look like the love-child of Yoda and E.T. No matter what anyone says, newborns are not pretty. In fact, they're downright funny looking.  [2] "...Do not tell me that looks cute. I know that looks like a cross between E.T and Yoda. And no comments about my figure. I am not Cindy Crawford and, yes, those are maternity clothes I'm still wearing...."
Fourth Turning, The~1997 - (William Strauss, Neil Howe) The best the Nomad can hope to experience is a brush with others' greatness. In the Star Wars trilogy, Han Solo looks down the age ladder and sees the good Luke Sky- walker and Princess Leia-and looks up and sees the wise Obi-Wan Kenobi and the evil Darth Vader ..."
Fox Tales: Behind the Scenes at Fox Software~2003 (Kerry Nietz) Dave Fulton had a reputation for being super aggressive and that gave rise to a new catch phrase "LTWW"  "Let The Wookiee Win"    "To us, the similarities between Dave and the Wookiee increased as the days of development on Fox Pro 2.0 went by.  His temperament reached the point where it was better to let him have his way.  "L...T...W...W" was mentioned more than once under someone's breath after Dave vehemently ordered a product change.  Better to do the work rather than have your arms ripped off, after all.   To add to our amusement - and to more solidify the analogy - one winter day Dave began sporting a full-length fur coat along with a matching fur cap.  If only he knew"
Fractals: The Patterns of Chaos: A New Aesthetic of Art, Science and Nature~1992 -  (John Briggs)  From ancient tribal peoples to modern painters to the animators of Star Wars, artists have been captivated by fractals and have utilized them in their work.

Fundamental Acting: A Practical Guide~1998 - (Paul Kuritz) "... Be the first player to hit your target. Do whatever is necessary! "Trying is not enough," as Yoda the Jedi master says; "Try is not. Either do or do not." Some actors get sidetracked into playing other things: ..."
Funny that Way~2000 - (Joel Perry) "Suddenly we heard an unmistakable basso profundo voice call out, "Gene, how are you!" James Earl Jones, looking every bit as magnificent as he sounds, greeted the man, and they chatted.  Mr. Jones introduced the handsome woman with him, whom I can only assume was Mrs. Jones.  After pleasantries, "Gene" shook hands and excused himself, and the Joneses were seated at the table beside us.  All we could do was to try not to giggle from hearing the exquisitely enunciated, barrel-deep voice of Darth Vader saying things like, "Would you like a roll, my dear?" It sounded like an ex-Jedi knight winding down after a good day of destroying rebel planets. He had the chicken, and I kept expecting to hear, "Luke, give yourself over to the dark meat"..."
Fury: A Novel~2001 - (Salman Rushdie) "...can't happen too soon for me. But in the meanwhile we've got big plans of our own. Me? Call me Yoda. Backwards I speak. Upside down I think. Inside out can I turn you. Strong with you think you the Force is? Strongest in me it moves, seriously"
Fury and the Terror, The~2002  (John Farris) ..."Stevie screwed up his face, biting his lip.  Nothing occurred to him.  The other boy had shaggy red hair and was missing his two front teeth.  He smiled broadly at Eden.  "He thinks he's a Jedi Knight and can put people to sleep with the power of his mind."  "I put my dog to sleep just by staring at him."  "oh, wow.  Your dog sleeps all the time anyway."
Future of Leadership, The~2001 -  (Warren Bennis) "Transformation is a scary word.  It may even discourage people.  It may also fuel cynicism.  Little successive victories earn a lot of credit, and they inspire confidence.  As the Jedi Master Yoda instructed the young Luke Skywalker: "Try not!  Do, or do not, there is no try""
Future of the body: Explorations into the Further Evolution of Human Nature~1993 - (Michael Murphy) [1] Luke Skywalker suffers under Yoda's guidance to become a vehicle of the Force. Future of the Past~2003 (Alexander Stille) "... seventy-seven-year-old with elephant ears, two hearing aids, and an impish smile; he looked a little like the wise, old teacher Yoda in Star Wars-but without the mystical vein. His pond systems are not a utopian environmentalist's fantasy."
