P
P: A Novel~2003 - (Andrew Lewis Conn) "Finn, in black, in full Hamlet regalia with outstretched Yorick skull, was trick-or-treating with neighborhood friends dressed as Yoda, Leonardo the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and the red . . ."
Pacific Coast Highway: Traveler's Guide~2003 - (Tom Snyder) "A little further along, just a few miles south of Crescent City, you'll pass through a portion of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, which is surprisingly beautiful for being right on a main highway, with a feeling of near privacy about the drive through.  This is also the location used in Star Wars where Luke Skywalker and his chums all flew through the big trees (actually Return of the Jedi)"....etc., etc., "Hmmm, Jedediah Smith Redwoods.  Well, how about Jedi? Works for me..."
Paradise Burning~1998 (Chris Simunek) [1] "they were playing a game of fooz-ball. I watched one movie that starred this huge, hairy man who looked like Chewbacca."  [2] "... mostly couples, had come to see the ten o'clock show. I sat back at the bar. For all I knew, Chewbacca was going to come out and do his Harlem Globetrotters act, and this not being Ocean- world"
Paradise Screwed~2001 - (Carl Hiaasen) "And for his lawyer: Bob Traurig or Tom Carlos, who has become the new Yoda-figure-on zoning matters the commissioners seem in awe of his wisdom, and vote accordingly. "
Paradise Snare~1998 - (A.C. Crispin) In the second chapter of the paradise snare Han is talking about his personas, one of which is Jenos Idanian, now if you move around the letters it becomes Jones Indiana, or Indiana Jones if you reverse the words. In case you didn't know, Indiana Jones is a character that Harrison Ford played. Harrison also played Han Solo in The Star Wars trilogy.  Another interesting tidbit of information, is his cousins last name, Suul, which was George Lucas' original last name for Han Solo, but was debunked due to it sounding too much like Sulu from Star Trek. (thanks to Sander for the info!)
Paradox of Contemporary Architecture, The~2001 - (Peter Cook) An extract of a lecture on Architectural Eschatology is used.  In it Sumet Jemsai says that Star Wars, Star Trek et al. are hugely plagiaristic:  "Earlier in this century Georges Méliès produced the very first [silent] science fiction film, A Trip to the Moon (1902).  A number of the same genre followed, culminating in Stanley Kubrick's, 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968....2001 of course gave rise to automatic plagiarisation of the genre with an untold number of home TV type sequels: Star Wars, Star Trek, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, etc., so that Arthur C. Clark now has to put in his final word with 3001."
Paris to the Moon~2001 - (Adam Gopnik) On pinball games: "Each machine has an automated bonus, something weird that happens if you get enough points, and there is something rapt and lovely, in this day of virtual everything, about the clockwork nightingale mechanicalness of the pinball machines, about the persistence of their metallic gears and simple slot-and-track devices.  So far we have been through major-league baseball, Star Wars (Han Solo gets blasted into that carbon sheet)..."
Party of One: The Loner's Manifesto~2003 - (Anneli S. Rufus) "Anticipating the release of George Lucas's first Star Wars film in 1976, the Kenner company produced action figures based on its characters. Han Solo, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, the robots-it was a numbers game..."
Passion, Profit, Power~1997 - (Marshall Sylver) The author is talking about which words to remove from one's vocabulary, on being TRY, he goes on to say, "...An excellent example of this is in The Return of the Jedi, young Luke Skywalker seeks to learn the secrets of the famous Jedi Master, Yoda. Luke is initially incredulous that this small, green creature is The Master and further disappointed not to be given . . ."
Pathfinder: How to Choose or Change Your Career for a Lifetime of Satisfaction and Success, The~1998 - (Nicholas Lore) ". . .Bucky was much more than an architect. If you can imagine Obiwan Kanobe and Yoda combined in a real person who was at the same time a master futurist, scientist, engineer, architect, inventor, . . ."
PC's for Dummies~1999 - (Dan Gookin) Get ready at the mic and then click the record button. Start talking or singing or doing your Yoda impression. When you want to stop, click the stop button."
Penny Dreadful~2001 - (Will Christopher Baer)  "He couldn't bend himself that far over if Yoda himself was sitting on his neck, croaking a lot of Jedi nonsense at him."
People in Space: Policy Perspectives for a "Star Wars" Century~1985 - (James E. Katz) (Reagan's Star Wars)
Perl, CGI and Javascript Complete~ - (Sybex Inc., et al.) "but it should now be in alphabetical order, as shown in Figure 9.10. ns n s jdk1.1.S\bin;c:\jdk1.1.5\lib\classes.zip;c:\h\jedi\lih: p g p v _ he value of PROCESSOR-IDENTIFIER is x86 Family 6 Model 1 Stepping 9. Genuinelntel '_ he ..."

Phantom Defense: America's Pursuit of the Star Wars Illusion~2001 - (Craig R. Eisendrath) title
Philosopher at the End of the Universe: Philosophy Explained Through Science Fiction Films, The~2004 - (Mark Rowlands) Explains through Nietzschean theory why classic villain, Darth Vader, could never be an Overman (a human who has battled modern values and overcome the flaws of humanity) because he doesn't quite fill the requirements.  Instead of continually transforming through sublimation (modifying his instinctual impulses in a socially acceptable manner), he gives in to hate/anger freely.  Note: Anakin is spelled Annakin at all mentions of this character.
Philosophy and Cognitive Science: Categories, Consciousness, and Reasoning~1996 - (Andy Clark, Jesus Esquerro, Jesus M. Larrazabal) Attitudes Content and Identity by Juan J. Acero.  Trying to solve, or at least explain through illustration. Frege's puzzle (Gottleb Frege - German logician, mathematician, philosopher)  Differentiating between these expressions: (1) Anakin Skywalker does not serve the Emperor  and (2) Darth Vader does not serve the Emperor  and asking how is it possible for anyone, Luke Skywalker for example, to understand and accept (1) without accepting and emphatically denying (2) ...even though Anakin is Darth Vader ...etc., etc.
Philosophy Goes to the Movies: An Introduction to Philosophy~2002 - (Christopher Falzon) "Star Wars (George Lucas, 1977), while it makes much of the marvels of technology, also refers us to a higher religious perspective, the Jedi religion which supports central human values including respect for life, justice and liberty- Technology- without a higher religious dimension is represented by the Empire's Death Star, the moon-sized war machine capable of destroying entire planets..." etc.
Philosophy of Horror or Paradoxes of the Heart~1990 - (Noel Caroll) [1] "In the Three Princesses of Whiteland...a lad is beset by a three-headed troll; however, the writing does not signal that he finds this particular creature any more unusual than the lions he passed earlier.  A creature like Chewbacca in the space opera Star Wars is just one of the guys, though a creature gotten up in the same wolf outfit, in a film like The Howling, would be regarded with utter revulsion by the human characters in that fiction" [2] "Indeed, there is a creature that looks rather like Chewbacca in Return of the Vampire 8 Tzvetan Todorov, The Fantastic (Ithaca. Cornell University Press, 1975). 9 Such as Terry Heller, ..."

Plan B~2000 - (J. Tropper) An excerpt from the jacket: Jonathan Tropper’s wonderful debut novel is about more than friendship, love, celebrity, addiction, kidnapping, or even turning thirty- it’s a heartfelt, sharply written, comic riff on what it means to be an adult against your will, to be single when you thought you’d have a family, to realize nothing in life happens like you planned it, to discover you are not, in fact, immortal, and to learn that Star Wars is as good a life lesson today as it was when you were six years old. (references the film and childhood)
Planetary Mysteries~1987 - (Richard Gossinger) "...Jedi knights, and incarnations of Merlin the magician. When the camera turns to him at the end, he recalls Spielberg's leprechaun-seer Yoda. But at this juncture of our culture I prefer the open hand of karate to the light sword of the Jedi ..."

Positively Fifth Street: Murderers, Cheetahs, and Binion's World Series of Poker~2003 - (James McManus) McManus describing a hand involving Hasan: "...My next three hands are unplayable, but on Hand 9, in the big blind, I discover the A-Q of clubs and get ready to raise.  Fold, fold, fold.  But, Hasan in the small blind, raises all-in right in front of me.   Bawk, buck, buck, buck.  I shoot him a curious glance, do a double take: he's radically changed.  I don't know when he put them on, but he's now wearing Darth Vader shades beneath a black, ultimatebet.com hat with the brim turned down low.  What to do."
Pot Planet: Adventures in Global Marijuana Culture~2002 - (Brian Preston)  "Listening to Soma, one of Amsterdam's finest growers, that Yoda-like Yank with Rastafarian dreadlocks down to his knees"
Power Failure: The Inside Story of the Collapse of Enron~2003 - (Mimi Swartz, Sherron Watkins) [1] "... in-laws. Power of Full Engagement: Managing Energy, Not Time, is the Key to High Performance and Personal Renewal, The~2003 - (Jim Loehr, Tony Schwartz) page 131 "The search for meaning and purpose is among the most powerful and enduring themes in every culture..." "...The power of purpose is woven just as deeply through modern popular culture, in movies ranging from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which retells the story of Perceval's search for the Holy Grail through the swashbuckling character of Indiana Jones; to the Star Wars trilogy, in which Luke Skywalker faces down his own deepest fears by overcoming Darth Vader and the evil Empire and rescuing Princess Leia."

[2] Chapter Engaging the Force: A Full Power Routine >Working Through the May the Force Be With You Routine "Some of the lead characters in the popular "Star Wars" movies acquired an internal power called the Force. Well, you don't have to be a Jedi warrior to plug into that kind of power - as a Yogi or Yogini, you can draw from your pruna, or life-force, energy anytime (no light sabre required)...Enjoy the ride Jedi...I mean Yoga...warrior!"
Practice of Facilitation, The~1998 - (Harry Webne-Behrman) "... appreciate the Star Wars movie trilogy (Lucasfilms: 1977, 1980, 1983), in which the hero, Luke Skywalker, attempts to become a Jedi knight to overcome the evil dark side of a mysterious force. Presence of Others: Voices and Images that Call for Response~1999 - (Andrea A. Lunsford) "...Then it should do everything possible to make sure that their energies are directed towards good, rather than evil. Primate's Memoir: A Neuroscientist's Unconventional Life Among the Baboons~2002 - (Robert M. Sapolsky) "The scenario was set: Gideon, the young Jedi knight; Nat reluctantly comes out of retirement to be Obi-Wan Kenobi; they form a coalition, overthrow Nick, truth and justice triumph, Han Solo and Princess Leia have a consortship as the movie ends."
Princess Diaries Series -  (Meg Cabot) (Thanks to Cap'n Rackham for the alert!) Here's what I found:

LinuxRulz: I think you've been playing with Fat Louie's cat nip mouse again.  FtLouie: Ha ha.  OK, how about the Ewoks.  LinuxRulz: The EWOKS? Where did your grandma take you today after she hauled you out of homeroom? Electro shock therapy?   FtLouie: I'm only trying to help.  LinuxRulz: I know, sorry.  Only I don't think the guys would really enjoy being equated with furry little Muppets from the planet Endor.  I mean, I know one of them is Boris, but even he would draw the line at Ewoks, I hope.

Psychology for Dummies~2002 - (Adam Cash) Persuading: "The power of persuasion is something I thing we all wish we had a little more of.  The greatest example of this power comes from a movie series, Star Wars. [2] "Well, I guess we'll see you soon" I muttered.  "We?"  said Addison.  "..Uhm...yeah, me and Han Solo" I took the figure out of my bag.  "We've been working together on this one" She hands him Han Solo. "Well, better take him with you. He's very good for people in sticky spots."
Tarot for a New Generation~2001 - (Janina Renee) Scrooge asks, "...Are those the shadows of the things that will be, or the shadows of the things that might be?" Teaching Buddhism in the West: From the Wheel to the Web~2002 (Victor Sogen Hori) "... avert the challenge of creating and affecting the freest flow of information ever, while others jump aboard (as if the Jedi knights of Star Wars dropped their light sabers instead of engaging with the Force when they saw the Death Star!)"
Teaching Music with Passion~2002 - (Peter Loel Boonshaft) [1] "There IS No TRY.  What a powerful phrase.  Those words were spoken by that remarkable philosopher and teacher, yoda, in the movie Star Wars:  The Empire Strikes Back, during a scene at his home in the Dagobah System..."  [2] "...Luke stands up and walks off a bit from his mentor.  As Luke sits back down, Yoda, with intense concentration, makes the sip rise in the air and places it gently on land.  Luke watches in amazement..." [3] "...as important as the direction we are moving.  "BELIEVE Poor Luke.  Caught by his own words:  "I don't believe it."  Yoda's wisdom helped Luke to understand.  Luke didn't believe in his own abilities or what was possible..."  [4] "...Werner Von Braun, "I have learned to use the word 'impossible' with the greatest caution.'  UNLEARN - Yoda spoke of unlearning.  It was not that the skill Luke had learned was wrong and needed to be unlearned..." etc. [5] "...cannot, say there is nothing to see, instead of taking the time to search for it.  Using the wisdom of Yoda, what follows are a few of those bridges to help our students reach for and touch their goals."

Textual Poachers: Television Fans & Participatory Culture (Studies in Culture and Communication)~1992 - (Henry Jenkins) [1] "... That's part of the fun, piecing together from the few clues what the Old Republic was actually like, who the Jedi were, what Han's background was, etc., etc.. . . I'm fascinated with all of the different versions around in Fandom ..."  [2] "... triumph of the rebellion, the final defeat of the evil emperor, and the construction of a new Alliance of benevolent Jedi Knights. Star Trek fans, well before Paramount decided to continue the saga itself, had already constructed numerous versions of ..." [3] "... power; he soon becomes a leader as ruthless as the one he seeks to displace. Similarly, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Jedi..."  [4] " Her Kenobi is motivated less by a sense of justice and democracy than by a desire to preserve the Jedi's autonomy and privilege. By the conclusion, the reader is uncertain how to feel about Darth's decision to align himself with ..."  [5] "... Kirk to Buck Rogers (then the focus of his own television series) and proclaims that "It's time to show those Jedi where we stand," a reference to Star Wars fans..."  (part of the word to a Star Trek song, fan written)

Brehm had to struggle to keep a straight face. "Yeah," McManus said. "They're Jedi Knights from the 24th." There is no 24th, and there hadn't been any Jedi Knights in the U.S. Air Force since a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away."
Therapist's Toolbox, The~2001 - (Susan Carrell) "...Leon Bradshaw was one of my favorite professors in graduate school. He looks like Freud, but in character, he is more like Yoda. He has a ring of white hair and a neatly cropped beard the same color. His gentle and often mischievous ..."

This New Ocean: The Story of the First Space Age~1999 - (William E. Burrows) "... sensationally successful Star Wars trilogy by looking backward as well as forward; by bringing history and familiar, living creatures like Chewbacca, an affable ape, together with ultra- high technology. Luke Skywalker was schooled in the ways of Jedi knighthood by a wise Arthurian character whose light saber suggested Excalibur, while the tired and scuffed X-fighters looked war-surplus, and the racist barman's refusing to serve R2D2 and C3P0 with a, "Hey, we don't serve their kind here; your droids" went back to how Indians were had been treated in clichéd Hollywood Westerns.  Indeed, the strictly mental "Force" used by the good and evil protagonists suggested that people wanted to control technology, not the other way around" ..."
This Too Can Be Yours~2001 - (Beth Lisick) On the show Circus of Antiques: "Who are those people who flock to the show bearing quilts and photographs and weaponry?  I've never met these kind of people.  Where in the world do they get these African hunting trophies, Civil War field paintings and rare Star Wars action figures?  I mean, a Han Solo doll with Princess Leah's breasts?  Still in its original packaging?"

Totally Awesome 80's: A Lexicon of Music, Videos, TV Shows, Stars, and Trends of that Decadent Decade~1996 - (Matthew Rettenmund)  #62 The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi "...These two sequels to the 70's blockbuster Star Wars enjoyed similar blockbuster status, each placing in the top ten highest grossing films of all time.   In these action-packed space operas we are treated to the ongoing adventures of young "Luke Skywalker" (Hamill), macho "Han Solo" (Ford), and beleaguered "Princess Leia" (Fisher). The bizarre space creatures (Yoda, Jabba the Hut, R-2D2, C-3PO), thrill-a-minute fights, and high-tech special effects don't overwhelm the genuinely funny and interesting interplay among the characters, who must patch up their differences in order to defeat the evil Dark Side.  The second sequel was originally called Revenge of the Jedi."
To The Nines: A Stephanie Plum Novel~2003 - (Janet Evanovich) "... I would choose up roles when we were kids. I'd be Snake Eyes from GI Joe or Inspector Gadget or Han Solo. Having these heroes in our lives helps us to grasp our own identity."  The author goes on to write that her son had cited Star Wars as a highlight in his life and at first the author dismissed this, until she saw Campbell's, The Power of Myth.  She saw the importance of heroes in his life and in peoples lives.
Touch the Top of the World: A Blind Man's Journey to Climb Farther Than the Eye Can See~2002 - (Erik Weihenmayer) [1] "...to pass the time.  "When I say the word, we'll throw out mild containers through the library door.  Aim for Yoda." Truth or Tabloid?~2003 - (Peter Fenton) Star Wars An Official Religion TRUTH "A recent British census asked citizens to identify their religion. Around ten thousand people did just that, forcing the Office for National Statistics to give Jedi an official position on the census form that followed.  "When the forms are processed, all data is encoded and we have given 'Jedi Knight' a code because a large group of people have entered it on their forms.' said a census official."
