Comic Con International 2005 July 15, 2005 At the Star Wars Spectacular there was a rehashing of news that most of us have heard already but some surprises... *A montage of work done on ROTS *A look at Letterman Digital Arts * A peek at Battlefront 2 and Star Wars Empire at War *Lucas Animation - In pre-production the new TV vehicle. 3-D, 30 minute episodes for Fall of 2007. *Features on ROTS DVD: Commentary, Long form documentary, Short form docs, deleted scenes. Sansweet did share a deleted scene featuring Senator Mon Mothma, Senator Fang Zar, Senator Giddean Danu, Senator Terr Taneel, Senator Amidala and Senator Bail Organa. The scene takes place in Bail's office. *World premiere of a short film about Star Wars called The Journey which featured people who worked on the film including Samuel L. Jackson, Silas Carson, Anthony Daniels, Liam Neeson, Hayden Christensen, Ewan McGregor, George Lucas, Rick McCallum and others. The film chronicles the premieres, the fans and other bits. *Matthew Wood came out to the delight of the audience and gave us a neat demonstration of Grievous' voice, which he performed himself. Included was a tidbit of the Bill Murray hit on Saturday Night Live "Star Wars, nothing but Star Wars!" and the small but memorable "When you wish upon a star..." Great fun. He also revealed the names of two characters he voiced from Attack of the Clones: Seboca and Magaloof! (you can check out his page HERE) *A montage of clips from all 6 films *A Q & A session: Possible update on the Star Wars encyclopedia; Young Indy on DVD (with new Indy 4 on the horizon); SW Weekends at DisneyLAND (if we all make an effort to write Disney and REQUEST that one or two be held in ANAHEIM!!); The Star Wars Poster Book; The Star Wars Chronicles; DVD box set in future but not the near future. _____________ Oh, I did catch a glimpse of the elusive, and quite lovely, Natalie Portman behind the black curtain that was being heavily guarded by Star Wars Pavilion staff, Mary Franklin, Steve Sansweet and some members of the 501st ;) Miss Natalie was attending the convention to help promote her upcoming film V for Vendetta and made a special stop by the Star Wars pavilion secretly to surprise a few unsuspecting fans. I heard that one very young man who had won a photo opportunity (by raffle) would not leave the Star Wars game he was playing to have his picture taken with the young actress. One of the nice men from the gaming area had to convince him (nay, drag him) away from his game, convince him that this opportunity didn't happen often. The young man ultimately gave in to the prize. After his encounter with Ms. Portman he was asked if it was worth it ... he wasn't sure what all the fuss was about. The Star Wars gaming rep told the gaming youth that he'd be more appreciative in a few years. He must have been very young as most young men (heck, men of any age) would not have given it a second thought. July 16, 2005 Our day started late, our lengthy stay yesterday and subsequent drive back into the heat rendered us weary beyond repair. By the time I finished some work it was 3 am and I was to be up at 8 again. We did plan to see a little more at the convention but found that the cool air had a far greater appeal. We stopped for a bite to eat which turned into a most leisurely meal. By the time we actually arrived at the convention center it was just around 2 pm. Just in time... My only true order for the day was to attend the Serenity special presentation which started a little late, thankfully. Here are some photographs: Missing is Alan Tudyk who Mr. Whedon jokingly relayed was "too fancy" to be at Comic Con ;) The cast talked a bit about their characters and their experiences and participated in a Q & A session. Additionally, a long clip of the movie itself was shown and very much enjoyed by the 6500 in attendance. I could not make the King Kong presentation or Tenacious D. But I did get a chance to see Mr. Black before the show... I also found this handsome young lad picking up some interesting things... I also saw Lance Henrikson passing through the convention center...maybe for his upcoming show Supernova? __________________ I had very pleasant chats with artists Justin Chung, Cynthia Cummens and Randy Martinez as well as actors Amy Allen (I was actually just relaying a message to her for a friend in the UK), Matthew Wood, a few words with Daniel Logan and another nice meeting with Chris Gore from Film Threat (sorry I couldn't make the Masquerade!) I want to thank them for taking the time to talk a little bit with me. I wanted to return on Sunday to sit in on Randy Martinez' class for kids day but couldn't swing the extra time...next year! LM
