Martin Jarvis

Martin Jarvis was born on August 4, 1941 in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England, UK.

As a young lad one would never have thought Jarvis would be renown for his vocal stylings, his first performance in a school concert was that of a sound effect.  When his cue came he froze and the yodel he was supposed to let out was missed altogether.   In spite of the failed attempt Jarvis continued with acting.  By 1960 he had his professional debut and then got his "big break" by landing the role of Jon Forsyte on The Forsyte Saga in 1967, and within a very short time Jarvis was a household name.

It seemed that his career would be put off due to a throat condition which altered his voice, but with work and rest he was again healthy and made a very strong return to acting.

Jarvis met his future wife, Rosalind Ayres, while they were in Hamlet together, she played Ophelia.  They married in 1974.

In 1998 he and his wife, Rosalind, formed Jarvis and Ayres, an radio/audio play production company.  Jarvis is England's foremost audio book narrator/reader ("King of the Spoken Word), his readings have garnered awards and accolades across the board.

Jarvis is married to actress Rosalind Ayres (1974 - present) , they have two children.
